Vermont Measure to Charge Big Oil for Climate Damages

Vermont is expected to become one of the first states to hold Big Oil accountable for the damages caused by climate change.

The state may soon pass a groundbreaking measure that would charge major fossil fuel companies billions of dollars for their past emissions. The measure is modeled after the Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund program under which companies are required to pay for the cleanup of their toxic waste sites.
